Temil had lost his parents at a young age. His father Haln Redsilver an elven merchant was an experienced gem dealer who primarily shipped between Erudin and Qeynos. On one of his many trips to Erudin he had taken his beautiful human wife and his small child with him. Haln had made this trip hundreds of times and he thought it would be good for his family to get out away from the home for a while. This would be an important trip, and he wanted his family to celebrate it with him. He had contracted a special shipment for a mage in Erudin and he would make more money this one time than he normally would in a whole year. Temil enjoyed sailing the cool ocean breeze and the boat teased his imagination with grand pirate fights. The way over was a wonderful time for all. The trip back from Erudin was drastically different. Soon after leaving port a storm rolled in, and pounded the ship with fierce waves. The loyal crew fought that terrible storm most of the night. Finally, near the coast of Erud's Crossing the storm won, with a huge wave the storm dealt its crippling blow. The massive wave broke the main mast, tearing down the sails with it. Sailors on the deck were crushed in the falling debris. Those left bravely rushed to secure what was left of the ship. Then a large and terrifying cracking was heard. The very hull of the ship was breaking, and the terror on the sailors faces told Temil the fate they would soon meet. Haln bravely held his small son and wife as the storm tore apart the ship.

Morning came and the sun beamed down on to Temil. He had been washed ashore with the only other survivor of the ill fated trip a ranger named Hager Sureshot. Both were exhausted and Temil was in shock. He had lost everyone in his life. He was totally alone, and didn't know what to do. Hager looked at Temil "I am sorry son, we are the only survivors." Feeling the pain of the boy's loss Hager decided to take the boy in and brought him to Surefall.

Surefall Glade was a remote outpost located in North Qeynos Hills run by the local ranger and druid guilds. For years the Rangers and Druids of Surefall had battled the invading hordes of blackburrow, the stronghold of the gnolls. Its was a dangerous life for the residents but one traveled with honor. The rangers numbers are small, and they frequently have to run their patrols of the surrounding area alone. This has spawned a need to be self reliant and has caused them to grow an affinity to nature. Their well developed skills have been put to the test many times. Twice the Blackburrow Gnolls have mounted major offensive campaigns against Qeynos, and both times Surfall and the Qeynos Guards where able to defeat them. Sadly many noble rangers, druids, and warriors sacrificed their lives in these great battles. It is in this land of strife that our young hero Temil Redsilver would grew up.

For many summers Temil roamed Qeynos Hills. He was charged with collecting bat wings and fire beetle eyes for the local guilds. Eventually he was allowed to enter training with the ranger guild. He was schooled in the ways of the wilderness and taught how to focus the power of nature into magical forces. At the end of the ninth year of training Hager came to Temil to talk of his future. Temil and Hager had become very close and in many ways Temil was a son to hager. So it was with a heavy heart but with much pride that Hager revealed Temil's future. "Temil, you are brave and honorable. You are a smart kid, and we have trained you well. There is but one task left to complete your training." "I am ready, what do I need to do" Temil interjected! "I know, As I said you are a smart kid, but you are not wise. The difference is great." Temil frowned but listened to the man who had raised him. "Listen carefully to what I tell you It will be very important. You will only get one chance." Quietly Temil nodded his agreement. "Good, like I said you are not wise. Wisdom comes not from a teacher, but from experience. To become a master ranger you must leave Surefall and Qeynos hills. Travel the land of Norrath. Learn what is there to be learned. Stop frequently and take council from those wiser than you, and teach those who need your council. Fight good causes, and right the wrongs you see. Most importantly help those who are in need." Temil sat listening intently as Hager finished. "When you feel you have traveled far enough and learned enough to prove you are wise comeback to the elders here. Sit before the elders of Surefall and request judgement, to see if you truly are honorable and wise or have failed in your task. Before warned Temil! Do not come back to soon for you will only be allowed to approach the elders once." At that point Hager grew quiet. he sat down in a chair near by and waited. Temil, contemplated what he had been told. he thought of his past, his life at Surefall, he thought of his parents, he wondered what the future would hold and were he would go. Both men sat there without saying a word meditating on the task set forth for Temil. hours passed when finally Temil stood with a smile and started to prepare his backpack.

The next morning Temil got up early and said his goodbyes. Hager stopped him at the door and hugged him and shared parting words. "Temil, remember this as you travel. Time is not measured in years passed, but by what one does and by what one feels. Good hunting ranger!" With a smile of a father Hager waved good bye. Temil waved back and started his new life. His first destination the city of the gnomes.
