Penguins VP to speak at Press Club luncheon

Pittsburgh Penguins Vice President Tom McMillan will visit The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Oct. 21, to discuss the Stanley Cup champions.

Success on the ice is not the only Pens story. Thanks to an aggressive marketing campaign, which features customer service initiatives, student offers and big-screen televisions outside the arena, the team is even more popular now than when Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux thrilled fans during the early 1990s.

A Forbes Magazine study last year determined the value of the Penguins brand has grown more than any other franchise in the National Hockey League and is among the fastest growing brands in sports.

Mr. McMillan, the team’s vice president of communications, oversees corporate communications strategy, media relations, broadcasting and Web site content. He is a charter member of the NHL’s Communications Advisory Board.

Mr. McMillan joined the Penguins 13 years ago after working as a writer, columnist, editor and broadcaster. He covered the Penguins exclusively for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette during their Stanley Cup campaigns in 1991 and 1992.

When: Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, noon.

Where: Engineer’s Club, 337 Fourth Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh.

Reservations required are $20 for Press Club members and $25 for nonmembers. Tables of 10 cost $200. Send your check by Oct. 16 to The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, Engineer’s Building, 337 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
