Fleming

John Fleming, son of Sir John Fleming of Wigton, m. a Miss Tarleton before coming to Virginia in about 1658. He patented land south of the York River. John Fleming died in St Peter's Parish, 8/27/1688. He had 4 children:

  1. Charles Fleming (was granted 1000 acres, Mattadequin Creek, 10/23/1690. He also acquired large estates in New Kent, Hanover, Henrico and Goochland. He married Susanna Tarleton, dau. of Stephen Tarleton. Charles made his home in St. Stephen's Parish. He died between 1717 & 1720, his estate was settled by his son & executor, John Fleming. Charles and Susanna had 6 children:
    • Elizabeth Fleming m. on 10/10/1703 Samuel Jordan.
    • Urcilla Fleming m. Tarleton Woodson on 4/3/1710 (cousin).
    • Susannah Fleming m. John Bates, Jr. on 8/5/1713.
    • Judith Fleming m. Col. Thomas Randolph on 10/1/1712. Married 2nd Mr. Davis.
    • Charles Fleming.
    • John Fleming 1698-1756 m. Mary Bolling.
  2. Tarleton Fleming m. Miss Bates and settled in Goochland at Rock Castle.
  3. Ann Fleming m. John Payne of Goochland Co.
  4. William Fleming b.???? d.ca.1744 of Hanover County. In 1742, William Fleming in his will mentioned his plantation in King William Co., which was in part land leased from the college, where he desired to be buried by his wife and son. William was in St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co., in 1719 when he was named overseer of a road, then vestryman, and sheriff of Hanover Co., VA in the years 1727 and 1728. William married twice but I do not have the names of either wife, nor the names of the children by either wife except by his first wife William had a son:
    1. Robert Fleming b.xxxx d.1735 m. unknown and had three daughters.

      • Mary Fleming m. Pleasant Cock.

    2. Eleanor Fleming m. Henry Bibb (from Wm.&Mary Quarterly V15 no. 4 Oct. 1935). They had a dau.
      • Christian Bibb m. Joseph Woolfolk. (Christian married a 2nd time.)

I am told that the will of William Fleming lists the following grandchildren:William Pollard, Benjamin Bibb, Henry Bibb, Robert Fleming Bibb, Charles Bibb, John Bibb, Mary Pollard who married Thomason, Mary Fleming who married Pleasant Cock, Martha Pollard who married Biggars, Elizabeth Fleming who married Wiley, Martha Fleming who married Gaines, Elizabeth Bibb, Ann Bibb, and Christian Bibb.
