My very first trip to Shawnee was back in 1978. Claudia Wingler, her father-in-law Don Wingler, Phil Blaase, and I set out for Camp Cadiz. I fell in love with the beauty of southern IL and vowed I'd return someday.
A highlight was stopping by the Old Slave House on our trip home. It is now closed; however, the state of IL may attempt to reopen it in the near future. I didn't see any ghosts there, but I'll never forget the sadness about the place.
