Saturday, June 28, 2003... Swimmin' Hole

David Caraway and Grayson Carr, a friend's son, had come for the cattle working. On Saturday morning before they left for San Antonio, we went by our favorite swimming hole near Glen Rose for a cooling dip. (Nol opted out in favor of recovering from the cattle working.) The Paluxy River cuts through limeston bedrock here, so the riverbed is solid rock. It's interesting to see the rock formations that have been left by the swiftly flowing spring floods.

Lots of families enjoy the cool water on weekends.

David and Grayson investigate the shallow part of the river where the kids enjoy sliding with the water into deeper holes.

In years gone by, there was a large rock dam here. It has crumbled away over the years, leaving a ledge where the crashing water ate away the river bed in front of the dam.

David decides to practice his life-saving techniques on Julie.

It quickly turns into something more like drowning
